Halo-Halo, Siopao , Buchi......droooool, yum, cravings! Who doesn't love authentic Filipino food?? Chowking is my go-to restaurant whenever I crave delicious food from my home country. During my pregnancy I had such strong cravings for Sinigang na Bangus and Siopao. I wanted, no I needed those dishes so badly. Now that my little girl, Saoirse, is a few months old, I decided to take her with me to visit my Filipino go-to restaurant, Chowking. What better way to start the new year? Filipino food at a great restaurant with my little princess.
It was a Sunday, so being a work day morning, I couldn't find a plus one to join me as everyone was at work. Their loss, haha
I decided to stop by the restaurant to try their latest menu but I was especially looking forward to trying their version of Nasi Goreng. Chowking Hamdan Street is such a convenient location with a family friendly vibe. I was really impressed with the space they have on the first floor to cater for all your party and special occasion needs.
So where does any good food blogger begin, the menu of course! Such a great selection on offer at Chowking, and what's more, prices have dropped to match the current market. Check out my Instagram video below;
I started by having their Nasi Goreng, an Indonesian food but with a Chowking twist. Rather than the extra spicy flavours that we Filipinos usually associate with Nasi Goreng, Chowking have made theirs more sweet and I have to say, I really loved it. Delicious and for AED25, this combo menu that includes barbecued chicken, wanton soup and an iced tea is an absolute steal. Great food at a great price. Portion sizes were huge and I couldn't finish it by myself and even though Saoirse was looking at me eating this delicious food with jealous eyes (too young to try now but she will be back in the future for sure), I got a doggy back to take the left overs.
After that I tried out Chowking's delicious Siopao and Buchi deserts. Choosing these deserts isn't even a question, I must have them when I visit Chowking. I highly recommend them, so so tasty..
My university days and Chowking go hand in hand. I cannot begin to count the times I used to visit their establishment as a student to order their Chao Fan. Such great memories and being here at Chowking today, makes me reminisce on those memorable days. As a student, you always need to carefully budget your money, but whenever I wanted a special treat, Chowking's Lauriat combo meal was it. Yum alert! Those university days when I was feeling homesick or a little under the weather, Chowking's Congee always made me feel better and cheered me up so much. Comfort food at its finest
Chowking brings back so many special and fond memories, they really were an important part of my life back then, so it is so great to be back here tasting their yummy food again.
I am pretty sure a new Chowking craving isn't far away and I am already looking forward to my next visit.
